Behind Vol. I — How Kangan's First Collection Came Together

Every first collection carries a particular kind of pressure. It has to say something — about who you are, what you believe, and why you bothered at all. Vol. I was ours to figure out.

Where it started

Kangan started with a simple frustration: we could not find printed lawn co-ord sets that felt both beautiful and practical. Everything in the market was either too formal, too fast, or priced out of reach for everyday wear. We wanted something in between. Something you could wear to a family lunch and to a friend's birthday and to absolutely nothing in particular — and feel good in all three.

So we decided to make it ourselves.

Choosing the prints

The six prints in Vol. I took longer to settle on than anything else. We knew we wanted the collection to feel cohesive — like six pieces that belong to the same world — while giving enough range that there was something for different tastes.

We started with colour. We wanted the palette to feel rich but not loud: deep teal, warm stone, midnight black, plum, charcoal, and burgundy. All six work as standalone pieces. All six work together on a rack.

The motifs came from what we love about Pakistani textile heritage — florals, botanicals, geometric forms — interpreted cleanly, without nostalgia. We did not want prints that looked like they were trying to be traditional. We wanted prints that simply were.

The name

Kangan means bangle. We chose it because a bangle is one of the most intimate objects in South Asian culture — worn close to the body, given at milestones, passed between generations. We wanted our brand to carry that same quality: things made to be kept, not discarded.

Calling the first collection Vol. I was intentional. It signals that there is more coming. It treats the brand like a publication — each collection a new issue, building on the last.

What comes next

Vol. II is already in progress. We are not ready to talk about it yet — but it will be different from Vol. I in ways that feel like growth, not departure.

If you want to know when it drops, follow us on Instagram. We will announce it there first.

Thank you for being here at the beginning. It means more than we can say.
